Media industry is the most digitalized industry and at the same time struggles to find efficient business models and new revenue streams in a fast evolving market and with an ever changing behaviour of their audience.
Heikki Rotko, Founder and Chairman of Media Honeypot, faced that challenge when being the CEO of MTV in Finland. Finding best solutions, not only in your network but internationally is very time consuming and not very efficient when organized in-house.
Innovation happens mostly outside of big corporations and only by connecting to the pool of agile startups a company can succeed. Europe has a huge amount of creative startups who struggle to find right contact within huge media companies, at the same time media executives need better access to the relevant teams, some filtering through the noise.
Heikki felt that meeting only relevant and high quality startups from different markets in one day and an easy setup to also talk to colleagues to exchange thoughts and challenges is what every corporate executive has to experience to stay in the game and benchmark their growth strategy. A vivid mix of one-to-one business meetings and learning in seminars.
The best place to launch the idea was together with Dmitri and Jan and their team from ArcticStartup who pull together business focused startup events with investors and corporates. Kim and Antti joined to spread the word and Janina to set up the first Media Honeypot event in April 2016, really bootstrapped but awesome with MTGx, Axel Springer, TV2, Atresmedia and many more a truly international event right from the start. We saw that this platform is definitely needed and by working even harder we grew our platform and Media Honeypot 2017 saw the light in February 2017 with Google, VICE, Bonnier, Schibsted joining. So it was time to incorporate Meda Honeypot to go international and we expanded to Amsterdam in September 2017 in a partnership with IBC. Now 2018 is in full speed and we diversify to deliver our network a support throughout the year to find best match and pre-qualified contacts to create the media of today and tomorrow, together.
And that´s how Media Honeypot was born to connect startups with their business partners to create the media we as customers deserve.
